The idea of freedom is often taken for granted, especially by those whom claim American as their nationality. Under the dictionary, one can find many definitions regarding the word “freedom;” however, I venture to say that not many have truly experienced the essence of being “free.”
I had the pleasure of experiencing freedom this past weekend and I am afraid my soul will not rest until it is experienced again. All my life my heart has longed for the sea, and the sand. I have always felt at home and at peace lying in the sand as I listened to the waves crash upon the shore. The coastline was always my home, my place of Zen. Luckily for my heart, I had the pleasure of returning home this past weekend, where my heart was then introduced to pure freedom:
Sailing.
The sun beating down as you slowly drift through the water, with only the sounds of the waves is beyond anything ever imaginable. No power, no noise, very little control…pure bliss. I cannot recall a time I have felt more alive, more peaceful, or freer. The coast calls to me and my heart aches for it.
I was born a son of the sea
I can’t be still, I can’t be tied.
The only time I feel alive is
When the wind fills my sail
Riding on a lifelong swell
Let my heart take me where it wants to go
That’s the soul of a sailor
I messaged Taylor last night. I did so to thank him, since we could not do so before me left. I told him that I thought you were smitten with the idea of owning a sailboat. Sure enough you are, not to my surprise, smitten with sailing. I knew even from your limited comments that you had most probably really and truly taken to it. Told him we may to get a sailboat in the future, no idea how lol. He said he provides cheap sailing lessons =)
ReplyDeleteHa. You know me so well. I am beyond smitten with it, and you already know my love of the coast.
ReplyDeleteCheap sailing lessons are awesome, and one day I hope to have a sail boat....when I live by the coast.
