Caffeine Day 1

I have successfully made it through one full day without any caffeine. I started my change project yesterday, with successful results. Today has been a little more difficult.

I arrived at the office and started to make the daily pot of coffee. With the exception of cold, rainy, or very tiresome mornings, I usually don’t bother drinking coffee. A cold bottle of water does the trick for me. This morning; however, as my caffeine deprived brain smelt the coffee I had a very small, subtle urge. This was not a strong urge, or anything that didn’t quickly pass…a mere reaction to scent.

I grabbed my water and went about my day, no big deal. At break time, my step dad arrived with breakfast from Hardees and sweet tea. He apologized and said he had forgotten I couldn’t drink it until my little brother reminded him; whether that is true or not, I don’t know. So there sat this beautiful cup of cold sweet tea just starring me down. I revisited and grabbed a cold Sprite. Not a huge deal, just annoying.

Not long after that, the headache kicked in. I’ve had caffeine induced headaches before, but damn is this one rough. The usual response would be to drink or eat something with some caffeine to subside the pain; however, that’s not really an option. The next response would be to take some headache medicine, most of which I am allergic to. I also have this personal notion of not taking medication and putting unnecessary chemicals in my body unless I absolutely have to; this is especially true for headaches (there is always a holistic answer). We shall see how long I last…

It’s only day one; I can’t wait to see what’s in store for tomorrow.
